Surveying this year\u2019s State of Smart Manufacturing Report, it\u2019s hard to deny that despite the many challenges facing manufactures, there\u2019s a certain optimism that shines through. Faced with economic headwinds, labor shortages, skills gaps, and cybersecurity concerns, advanced technologies like AI are giving leading manufacturers hope. In fact, GenAI ranks #1 for investment dollars and #2 for ROI in 2024, just trailing Cloud\/SaaS platforms. That\u2019s an interesting turn of events, because it wasn\u2019t so long ago that most players in the space were skeptical, even a bit afraid, of AI.<\/p>\n

5 Ways AI helps maintenance teams<\/h2>\n

Inspired by this year\u2019s report, we\u2019ve identified five benefits of AI for maintenance that we think really rise to the top:<\/p>\n

1. Finding anomalies<\/strong> in a sea of maintenance data<\/h3>\n

As today\u2019s manufacturing operations grow in complexity, the amount of data generated daily grows to a scale simply unmanageable by humans alone. AI really shines in digesting huge quantities of maintenance data\u2014such as sensor data from a motor or temperature data from a PLC\u2014and identifying the anomalies that could indicate failure. Not only does this put a justified focus on the human impact of new technologies, but Sandy believes that \u201cwhen framed up in that context, it tends to become a lot easier to get buy-in across the organization and certainly a lot easier to get a deployment off the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n
