But what are the TPM tools, techniques, and software that can help you achieve the tasks you\u2019ve laid out in your plan? According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leanproduction.com\/tpm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LeanProduction.com<\/a>, there are a number of different methods and solutions you can try out.<\/p>\n<h2>Industry techniques<\/h2>\n<h2>Setting your ideal OEE goal<\/h2>\n<p>You may remember that measuring <a href=\"\/maintenance-metrics\/overall-equipment-effectiveness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">OEE, or overall equipment effectiveness<\/a>, is an important part of operationalizing your TPM program. A key technique for measuring OEE is defining a \u201cpersonal best\u201d OEE target to work towards. This goal can be set by following these steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Track OEE for your TPM-related equipment for a month, compiling the results by shift<\/li>\n<li>Keep track of the best individual results across shifts for availability, performance, and quality<\/li>\n<li>Multiply the best result for each of the three OEE components to calculate your \u201cvery best\u201d OEE score. This should be the score you work towards as a team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Introducing proactive maintenance with a CMMS<\/h2>\n<p>Our final step in our \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fiixsoftware.com\/blog\/putting-your-tpm-plan-into-action-a-step-by-step-guide\/\" \n rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">putting your TPM plan into action<\/a>\u201d blog post was planning and scheduling maintenance activities. Of course, a <a href=\"\/cmms\/\">CMMS<\/a> will help you immensely with this. But what are the specific techniques you should be carrying out with your CMMS to ensure your preventive maintenance is following your TPM plan closely?<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Identify all equipment components that are candidates for proactive maintenance. This includes components that wear, components that fail, and stress points as dictated by thermology or vibration analysis.<\/li>\n<li>Based on the components that have been selected, establish maintenance intervals that should be followed for each component, based on wear intervals, failure-based intervals, time-based intervals, or work order-based intervals.<\/li>\n<li>Create a feedback system, which should be composed of the following activities:\n<ul>\n<li>Every replacement should be recorded in your CMMS, along with notes on why the replacement took place.<\/li>\n<li>A monthly audit should be performed to verify that <a href=\"\/glossary\/scheduled-maintenance\/\">maintenance schedules<\/a> are being followed, maintenance work is being tracked, and that the maintenance intervals established are still appropriate.<\/li>\n<li>Adjustment of maintenance intervals should be considered if there is <a href=\"\/maintenance-strategies\/unplanned-maintenance\/\">unscheduled maintenance<\/a> or replacements.<\/li>\n<li>Maintenance can be tracked over time with CMMS reports to give a clear picture of problems and issues that could be preventable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Sustaining TPM over time<\/h2>\n<p>Of course, one of the major facets of any TPM program is that it guides continuous improvement over time. This means that it needs to be enthusiastically adopted and championed by everyone involved. LeanProduction suggests a number of techniques for ensuring continuous and sustainable improvement with your TPM program:<\/p>\n<h3>Engage employees<\/h3>\n<p>Provide employees with an ideal future vision of your company, and detail the ways in which each employee would benefit in that scenario. This helps to address the \u201cwhat\u2019s in it for me?\u201d mentality and motivate employees to strive for an ideal state. Recognizing and rewarding behaviour that supports your TPM program is another great way to incent your team to support continuous improvement.<\/p>\n<h3>Succeed early<\/h3>\n<p>Ensuring early success in your TPM efforts will build confidence in the program among employees, and prevent it from being seen as a nuisance or an ineffective undertaking. Though this may seem like an obvious and hard-to-control technique, the takeaway should be that you should not spare resources in the beginning of your TPM efforts.<\/p>\n<h3>Provide active leadership<\/h3>\n<p>If upper management does not support TPM efforts, you can bet that technicians won\u2019t be supporting it either. Ensuring that management continually stresses the importance of TPM and celebrates the wins it creates will keep employees from drifting back into old behaviour or failing to take on new behaviour.<\/p>\n<h3>Evolve your TPM program<\/h3>\n<p>This is where the \u201ccontinuous\u201d part of \u201ccontinuous improvement\u201d comes in.
